In February 2015, Alex Ferguson ordered David Beckham to go shave his mohawk in the Wembley Charity Shield match against Chelsea. This a a very good example of the manager's control over the players which believe it or not extends to their way of dressing, not heir have much chose with uniform jerseys. So, the only way they can circumvent the situation and retain their personal signatures would be through their crazy hairstyles and numerous ink.
Russia 2018 was not any different the players, fans, managers and the designers too were ready to put their best foot forward. Let's scroll through what caught my attention mostly:
The Nigerian jersey, in particular the most handsome man wearing it William Troost-Ekong. The green and black prints on white was a good choice and William went ahead and added a luminous green on his black short hair to match his jersey.
Fellaini Bakkioui my Belgian 'fro twin (forget his actual twin) killed it as always, rocking that afro in a played down blonde colour. Remember his silver hair?
Chu Hyun-woo the South Korean goal keeper wore his mohawk in a bold colour.
Neymar Jr has been through a number of mohawk phases that we have all loved from emo-dark to this cute curly full mohawk in the Russia 2018.
Daniele de Rossi not only is he a gentleman but more than good manners maketh man but his adornment. It is no-shave-November everyday for this Roma, whose beard and hair made an crisp perfect match (not Ebru TV's Perfect Match) on his head.
Brazilian models did not shy away from showing their country support in the best way they know how. Adriana Lima took her jersey shirt to the Couture Fashion Week as Alessandra Ambrosio, Gisele Bündchen, Caroline Trentini and Isabeli Fontana took their jerseys for a spin in their daily activities and referenced in the gram (instagram).
Talking of models, the Russian model Natalia Vodianova was matchy matchy as she brought out the gold trophy after the World Cup final game in a golden and silver Louis Vuitton sequinned dress with a ruffled hemline and a black ribbon detail.
Robbie Williams, the English singer and actor opened the World Cup 2018 ceremony in a red leopard suit and black shirt that he buttoned down to show off his chest.
What is world cup without its fans? To say fans from 32 countries were present would be inaccurate or rather excluding our very own government (Government of Kenya) officials who flew all the way to watch the game. A sea of humans from all walks of life filled the Stadiums and the Moscow environs for the last one month to witness for themselves who would take the cup home. Here are my three favs:
