MOMBASA: BEAUTIFUL PARADISE

Updated: Oct 18, 2018

Whenever we think of a vacay destination, the quickest idea is usually down coast. Mombasa is the heart of Kenya’s tourism, making it the ‘it’ getaway spot.

How to travel

To ensure an easy breezy travel ensure to pack light. It may not seem light sometimes but pack three days before the due date and use the remaining days to eliminate what is not necessary. Multis (one that can be multipurpose)are key. If an item can be versatile, that is a must-have. When you are parking, put in to consideration the means you will use to travel (if by air you will need to be more keen on the weight of your entire luggage, by train you can carry extras, by bus carry as much as you can), the weather of your holiday destination and most importantly the people. You have to be a Babylon, when you are in Babylon.

When to Travel

The best time to pack your bags and go forth to seek adventure is during off-peak seasons when the weather is favorable. You don’t want a crowded beach or a rainy one for that matter.

Where to Stay

Mombasa is a hub of hostels of all caliber, you can’t miss ‘your’ spot even without having to comprise. With a range of options I would recommend a half-board on a good-view location hotel (with a private beach-if you may) then explore the magnificent wonders of the small towns during the day. Taste different cuisines from what you are used to, meet unlike humans/strange culture, low-altitude terrain, and ancient architecture laced with depths of history.

How to spend your time

Being the oldest city dating to circa 900 AD,never will Mombasa lack in activities, have you visited the Old town rich in history, the Haller Park that was started from scratch? Dined under the moon-lit cave? There is everything for everyone, as Nancy would say, best believe.

What not to forget

You know that bummed up moment you realized you forgot to park your camera’s charger that is of an alien kind? The trip is half dead. Be kind to yourself get a note book and pen, or create a list on your notes of things to carry, pen it down in your brain too, if it works for you.

Beware!

There is a breed of people you ought to look out for-the beach boys. I don't have a problem with liaising with people for mutual/loop-sided interests but having to compromise your personal space is a another thing. Lead the way! Hold my hand! But not my thighs, even my shoulder out of bounce! Why are there no beach girls, anyway?

Enjoy your holiday

You took your time organizing for this moments, now make the most out of them. Let Travel Discover Kenya 2018 by my acquaintance a beautiful spirit, Rupi Mangat be your guide.
