FENA UNLEASHED!

I loooove Fena, I can’t explain it! My first memory of hearing Fena was back in 2012 when I was working for Storymoja Hay Festival can’t quite remember if she was rehearsing before going on stage but I remember I stopped doing my duties and went looking for the origin of the sweet mellow voice I was hearing and I saw a chubby Fena in a red tee. I didn’t resume my duties till the fat lady stopped singing (no pun intended). Since then I have been a Fenatic fanatic! Her vocals are out of this world, her playful catchy lyrics, her dental formula , her smile, her…ok let’s get back to earth… her swag that is improving by the day, her efforts to brand optimize her brand, I applaud her, she be doing her thing tho’, Fenomenal woman! Te quiero, muchos muchos, mia amor!!

After Kwambox Kwaboxing the crowd with Jo Kisila on the decks Mama Yao walked on stage with her swag and walking stick. It was Fena at 10 and being in the industry for ten years nothing could stop even her limp on her right leg. Her first set commenced with the smooth ‘Nairobology’ remember that one? It began and was super stoked to see up close, beautiful as always, she's growing old gracefully I must say. She is only one year older than me,see my life!

Then she decide to sample us her favourite songs in her new album as her sets continued ‘Monday Blues’ such a jam, she must be a romantic this one! The Dynamiques band sound was the perfect background for her vocals. Wardrobe change and Michelle Ntalami’s look alike-Mayonde comes on stage with Kagwe doing, ‘Dutch’ and ‘Kama Kawaida’ and a sample of ‘Siri’ ,Oh, such a vibe!

Last set and Elani the trio, brought us to the climax with ‘Jana Usiku’ and the lovey-davy ‘Kookoo’ and Fena shut down the party with ‘Unleashed’ her new single in the 15-track album , ‘Sema Ng’we’ and ‘Steam’ promising a parte after parte in Milan, Westlands! By the end of the show my feet, throat and I were not mine at all! I was Xtatic beyond! The friends she talked about Charisma, Xtatic and Xenia Manasseh lit up the stage for her and she brought her A-game as well. Fena’s little rant after her listening party at the Alchemist about Kenyan artists not supporting their own must have worked because the ‘VIP’ area was full of artists, producers, dancers and supporters that they spilled to the regulars’ side at the Silo parking lot,The Junction. They didn’t just show up these guys were present on tables chanting Fena on,was a sight!

2020 is a powerful beginning for her, I promise.
